”What is a ‘resonator?’ The term describes anyone who acts as a friendly, interested, and supportive audience. Resonators fill many roles: they show interest, give feedback, express praise, offer encouragement, contribute practical help, and promote the work to others. The presence of resonators is one of the most important factors that marks the difference between successful writers and unsuccessful ones.
Resonators show interest in the work itself—they are enthusiastic about the project, they believe it is worth doing, and they are eager to see It brought o completion. But more importantly, they show interest in the writer—they express confidence in the writer’s talents and show faith in his or her ability to succeed. They understand what the writer is attempting. They catch the vision and then do all they can. Resonators help innovators to make the leap from where they are to where they need to be” (41).
What an awesome quote!
I was reading this book on the Creative Collaboration of the Inklings, and I couldn’t stop thinking about this idea. If you have been following my blog for a while, then you know that I lost my Daddy five plus years ago on Halloween. He was my biggest Resonator. He always asked about my writing. He always watched to check my story ideas. He would comment and ask me for more. He wanted to see my drafts. He would take the imaginary red ink to my work. My Daddy always wrote with a blue pen. He claimed it was more dignified than a black pen or any other colors. But he always paid attention to what I was doing.
Since he passed on, I have been doing NO WRITING!
I have ideas, and I start to do some research, but then, I stop when I realize that it isn’t going to go anywhere. I have the desire to craft a wonderful story, but I don’t have the patience or the desire to craft anything.
I wonder if I actually had someone still in my corner who pushed me to meet deadlines. Pushed me to read a certain book, besides the tons of review books, to learn the material I need to craft my story. Maybe I would actually get something done.
This was part of the reason I joined the ACFW. To find other writers, some published or some unpublished, who could push me to create more stories. But that did not happen either. I was not part of the elite of this group. I’m too shy to jump out and make a name for myself. This blog is the only way that my voice is heard.
I would love to have a Resonator in my corner to push me to do what I believe God designed me to do.
Anyone want the job? Anyone know of any writing groups in Western Central Indiana that I can join? I need someone to help keep me in line to craft my stories. Someone who believes in me and pushes me to do better or do anything at all.
I just found this site and it's a bit confusing to navigate, but it looks super cool!!!!!
