My Thoughts:

Isaiah's Daughter by Mesu Andrews is my first book by Andrews. I was curious about the book because my middle son's name is Isaiah, and I wanted to learn more about the Isaiah, the prophet. While he isn't the main character, hence the title of the story, he is still an important character in the novel. With Biblical fiction, I knew I would be reading a story set in a world completely different than modern times filled with characters who either wrote a book of the Bible and mentioned a little bit.

I can't imagine all the research Andrews had to do to create such a compelling story. As an author, I have to do tons of research to make my World War II era come to life, but I can't imagine all the work Andrews has to do to bring the Biblical world to life. They are a completely different world than World War II versus today. I enjoyed her research. It flowed seamlessly. She never took me out of the story to explain something. She had the characters interact and react to the world around them, allowing me to read and learn new things.

The characters of Ishma and Hezekiah came to life. I really didn't know much about Ishma or Hephzibah, which she became as the story developed further. Even though I have grown up in the church my whole life, Andrews brought a female heroine to life that I don't remember every learning about. I didn't know much about Hezekiah either, so Andrews does a great job at inviting me into their life and showing me more about God's provision in their lives.

As for the plot, it started really dense. I had a hard time getting interested. As the story moved along, I finally became interested, and I couldn't wait to see what happens. The fight between the Assyrians and Hezekiah's father moved the story along. I really enjoyed more about the power of God and how he will provide as long as we keep our focused on him.

Overall, Isaiah's Daughter by Mesu Andrews is an interesting Biblical story that draws the unknown Biblical characters into reality. I learned more about them, and Andrews deepened my Bible knowledge. I enjoyed Isaiah's Daughter, and highly recommend her writing for any student of Biblical writing.
