Lynette Eason: Without Warning

By Kelly Bridgewater

Taut Writing and Breakneck Pacing That Will Keep Readers Up All Night
Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency, stumbles upon her next assignment quite by accident. Spotting blue lights at a familiar restaurant, she stops to investigate, only to discover that owner Daniel Matthews has become the target of someone who will go to any lengths to put him out of business.

Daniel might be concerned, but he's not convinced that a bodyguard--and a female one at that--is necessary. A new attack and his niece's urgings are enough to make him reconsider. He and Katie must figure out who's behind the intimidation and threats--before a would-be killer strikes again.

Witty dialogue and a simmering attraction will have readers flying through this tension-laced thriller. Eason exercises complete control of her readers' emotions as they race through the pages to discover the truth.

 My Thoughts:

Lynette Eason is one of my favorite romantic suspense writers. She knows what the genre readers desire and delivers without hesitation. From the first chapter, Eason does a good job at inviting me into the suspense and doesn't let go until the end of the novel. Without Warning is no expectation.

I enjoy how Eason drew me into the writing. First, the setting is a typical American neighborhood where everyone pay attention when something happens or they are completely ignoring what happens around them. Eason's quick writing with the right amount of dialogue and prose throws me into the action right away, inviting me into the action.

Speaking of the action, Without Warning begins with a dead body hanging from the pipes in a restaurant's basement and keeps moving throughout the whole book. I really didn't want to put the book down. It was original and completely unpredictable. Yes, I have read TONS of romantic suspense novels and usually have majority of them figured out before the end of the novel, but Eason does a good job at keeping me quessing.

With the characters of Katie and Daniel, I enjoyed getting to know them better. Katie was introduced in the first book Always Watching, and I couldn't wait to see her in her own story. By moving through the women who make up this bodyguard position from the Elite Guardians Agency, I get to observe how each one of their personal struggles. Eason has done her research on what it takes to diffuse a bomb and throws Katie into a situation to face her worst fears.  As for Daniel, he is an admirable hero who has taken in his teenage niece and is a great boss to his employees because he isn't afraid to work right alongside them. As for the romance, it was a little too fast for me. Daniel and Katie weren't together that long, and they were already feeling emotions for each other. I didn't like that.

Always thrilling, Lynette Eason has created another hit out of the park with her next installment in her Elite Guardians series Without Warning. With non-stop action and characters that are deepened, I really can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.

I received a complimentary copy of Without Warning from Revell Publishing and the opinions stated are all my own.

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

If you read romantic suspense, what is your favorite part, the romance or the suspense? Why?
