Susan May Warren: Sundown

By Kelly Bridgewater

Former Delta Operative Colt Kingston knows when someone is lying. He may not know the truth, but he sure doesn't trust Tae, the woman who is caring for his ailing father at Sky King Ranch. Behind those beautiful blue eyes, he can tell there is a troubled--and smart--woman.

A few of her stories prove true--he's found the crashed plane and the dead body inside. Still, her story of survival seems too incredible to believe . . . until the thugs she claims to be hunting her show up and threaten Sky King Ranch. Now Tae must disappear, along with her secrets.

But Colt's not about to let her go it alone. And when they discover that her secrets include the antidote to a plague that threatens the world, it'll take all three Kingston brothers to save the country they've vowed to protect.

Susan May Warren brings her Sky King Ranch series to a climactic close with this high-stakes race against the clock.

My Thoughts:

Sundown by Susan May Warren nicely ties up the three Kingston’s brothers’ trilogy. With plenty of action, drama, and romance, Warren does not leave her readers’ much room for breathing or taking a break. Sundown is the type of novel that needs to be read in one sitting.  Warren surprises the readers with some familiar characters from her previous novels. The romance does round out the story and help develop the characters deeper. Some of my favorite parts of Warren’s recent stories are the third-party character who speaks truth into the characters. The moments of truths dig deep into my heart as well as the characters. Makes me want to think about those words for a little bit longer. The setting and description are nicely handled. Readers will feel like they are in the places and can feel the cold air across their face as Warren details them. Overall, Sundown by Susan May Warren is thrilling way to end a series features three brothers. I recommend all fans of Warren’s writings to pick up this book.

Susan May Warren: Sunburst

 By Kelly Bridgewater

When former Navy Seal and lifelong bachelor Ranger Kingston is called upon to take part in a rescue mission to save his brother Colt, who has been kidnapped by terrorists in Nigeria, he is shocked to find among the hostages a woman he knows and could never forget.

Noemi Sutton was attempting to return a young girl to her family in Boko Haran territory when she and the girl found themselves taken hostage, along with several others.

And while Ranger Kingston may be able to get the hostages away from their captors, he'll need Noemi's help if he ever hopes to get out of Nigeria alive.

Her solution? Pose as husband and wife. But when her uncle discovers the union, he insists on a traditional Nigerian wedding--binding Noemi to a man destined to break her heart. Worse, she's discovered the real reason she was kidnapped, and anyone around her is bound to be caught in the crossfire. Including her so-called new husband.

She will need to figure out a way to leave the man she loves if she wants to save his life.

USA Today bestselling author Susan May Warren throws you into the thick of the action in this high-stakes, globe-trotting romance.

My Thoughts:

Sunburst features the Kingston family on the Sky King Ranch in Alaska. In Sunrise, readers were introduced to Dodge and his story, but now in Sunburst, we are told a little more about Ranger’s past and even have a glimpse into Colt’s story. Sixty percent of the story takes place in Africa, then returns to the Sky King Ranch to finish the plot. As a personal preference, I just finished Willow by Ronie Kendig, so I have a disdain in my mouth for the stories that take place in Africa. Personally, a number of our church members have been on mission trips to Africa. Even as far as a family spending an entire year living there. Not me. I have no desire to visit or serve in Africa. Unless God tells me otherwise, I do not plan to visit Africa. Anyways, as for the plot, it does feature some interesting aspects of the Nigerian culture, like a wedding and the family dynamics. These were interesting to view because they are definitely different than the American culture. The romance is over the top between Ranger and Noemi. They both have feelings for each other, but they want to deny it because they believe the other person does not like them. They do not want to be hurt again. As for the plot, plenty of moments were Ranger and Noemi are running through the woods, jumping into creeks, flying through the water on a speedboat, picked up in a helicopter, and flown halfway across the world. One of my favorite aspects of the story was the cliffhanger at the end of the novel. Cannot wait to dive into Sundown and see how Warren ties this series together.
