Elizabeth Goddard: Hidden in the Night

By Kelly Bridgewater

At the behest of her ailing mother, former FBI special agent turned rare-book collector Ivy Elliott arrives in Alaska to secure an unpublished Jack London manuscript kept secreted away for decades. But when she arrives, she learns the manuscript is gone--taken by the granddaughter of the woman who possessed it. Ivy sets off in pursuit, not just to save the manuscript but to save the vulnerable girl, who was previously trafficked and has no idea what she's getting herself into.

Joining forces with Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long, Ivy must battle a blizzard, sabotage, and the worst of an Alaskan winter as the search goes on. But every answer they find only raises more questions--and the danger to their lives and to the missing girl may only be the tip of the iceberg.

Don't miss this breathtaking race for truth set amid the glorious--and deadly--Glacier Bay from USA Today bestselling author Elizabeth Goddard.

My Thoughts:

Hidden in the Night by Elizabeth Goddard is the third book in a series, which each book could be read individually. As a romantic suspense novel, readers will expect romance and suspense to progress as the story progresses. It does. The plot moves along nicely with the hunt for a manuscript and what surrounds it and a missing girl. Plenty of thrills and chills for the best suspense lover. As for the romance, it was predictable and happened a little too fast for me. I noticed in most novels where the romance starts in the beginning of the book or in a previous book, it is still too soon for me. Just a personal preference. I would like to see the relationship develop more before they end up in a marriage proposal at the end of the novel. One of my favorite aspects of the novel was the setting. I hope, someday, to be able to visit Alaska, so I love seeing in my imagination and reading about characters as they maneuver through the wilderness of Alaska’s back country. There are some moments of spiritual reflection, but nothing that is really forced down the readers’ throat. Overall, Hidden in the Night has the suspense element down, but the romance needs to be paired back a little bit.

Elizabeth Goddard: Shadows at Dusk

By Kelly Bridgewater

Montana Detective Trevor West is desperate to learn what happened to his sister, who went missing in Alaska over a year ago, leaving nothing but a few photographs as clues to her whereabouts. At the advice of Police Chief Autumn Long, Trevor enlists the help of an experienced bush pilot. If Carrie James can't help him find the places in the photographs, no one can.

But Carrie has her own agenda. Grieving the death of her closest friend and the only person she could trust, Carrie will help Trevor find his sister on one condition--that he help her track down her friend's killer.

As the two close in on the answers they crave, they'll face dangers and connections they could not have imagined. They'll have to learn to trust one another--and face the dark secrets of the past--if they are ever to discover the truth and bring a killer to justice.

My Thoughts:

Shadows at Dusk by Elizabeth Goddard took a while for me to get into. Right from the beginning, there was a high octane moment, but then when the story moved into Alaska, it took a little bit of time to dive into the actual story. A lot of flying over places. Questioning locals with the image of Jennifer in Trevor's pocket. While the heroine and hero expressed they were falling in love, I, personally, had a really hard time buying it. Yes, they had a past, but then they wanted to trust each other and fell in love way too quickly. Personally, if I was running for my life, I would not stop think of my feelings for this other person were real or not. As for the plot, it was okay. Not really that exciting until the characters landed on Jacob's Mountain. I did find it odd that as they were searching for answers people would come out of the woodwork and hit them, sabotage their plane, and simple things to keep them from looking. Because not even the characters knew what they were looking for. Pictures that Jennifer left were the only clue, but they honestly were not clues, in my book. Overall, Shadows at Dusk by Elizabeth Goddard needed more depth to the plot and the suspense element. I found the romance unbelievable too.

Elizabeth Goddard: Cold Light of Day

By Kelly Bridgewater

Police Chief Autumn Long is fighting to keep her job in the quiet Alaska town of Shadow Gap when an unexpected string of criminal activity leaves her with a wounded officer, unexplained murders, and even an attack on her own father. Despite her mistrust of outsiders, she turns to Grier Brenner, a newcomer who seems to have the skills and training Autumn needs to face this threat to her community.

Grier is in Alaska for the same reason so many others are--to disappear--when Chief Long enlists his help. He emerges from the shadows and proves his mettle, but his presence in her life could be a deadly trap for them both. If his secret is exposed, all will be lost. And he's not sure even Autumn could save him.

As the stakes rise and the dangers increase, Autumn and Grier must rely on each other to extinguish the deadly threats.

My Thoughts:

Cold Light of Day of Elizabeth Goddard is a romantic suspense novel featuring characters in Alaska. I love the concept of Alaska with the wilderness and no one around for miles. I would love to live there. Anyways, Cold Light of Day features Autumn Long, the police chief, in this small town. She has followed in her father's footsteps by becoming the police chief. She fights the stereotypes and wants to make a name for herself. Along the way, she meets obstacles that want to stop her from succeeding. With a dead body showing up on the scene, she encounters Grier. A hero who is running from his past. The characters move around in the nicely written scene. Goddard does a wonderful job at telling her story. As for the plot, I wanted more dead bodies or action. It was a pretty tame suspense novel. Many moments of why are we still thinking about this. Why isn't there life in more danger? Similarly, the romance was not top priority, which I highly thank Goddard for doing, but then the hero and heroine fall in love, and I did not believe. Overall, Cold Light of Day by Elizabeth Goddard has the potential to be a pretty awesome series, but as for the suspense element, it was lightly covered. Not one of her greatest stories.
