David James Warren: Heart of Stone

 By Kelly Bridgewater

Rembrandt Stone has nothing left to lose…or does he?

Detective Rembrandt Stone doesn’t recognize himself in the mirror. Doesn’t recognize the world he’s returned to. Doesn’t even know his own name. But he knows one thing…living in this world is impossible.

Good thing he has an ally—an unexpected friend from the past. And together, they just might be able to unravel the entire mess. But first…Rembrandt will have to return to the past one final time and intercept himself before he makes a lethal mistake.

Time has outwitted him. It’s time for him to outwit time. Can he reconstruct a past he just destroyed or is there nothing left of his world to save?

The explosive ending to the True Lies of Rembrandt Stone!

My Thoughts:

Heart of  Stone by David James Warren hits the final, explosive conclusion to the 6 part mini-series beginning with Cast the First Stone. If readers have been reading these books as they have been released, they will be excited to obtain the final book and have the full story come to life. If readers are not familiar with the whole series, I highly recommend reading them in order. Heart of Stone has a few surprises that are important to the overall arch of the plot, so readers would not want to be confused to some of the reference to items that occurred in a previous story. Overall, Heart of Stone was a high octane suspense chase through the pages of Rem’s life as he tries to finally return his life back to normal. What a wonderful story! I loved the way Warren kept the reader guessing at the end of each novel, begging me to return to the next installment, which luckily enough, I did not have to wait to long to read. Highly recommend this series for fans of lots of movement and suspense in their novels.

David James Warren: Blood From a Stone

 By Kelly Bridgewater

He fled the future with blood on his hands. Now, he’ll do anything to stop a killer.

Tragedy has yet again taken from Detective Rembrandt Stone everything he loves. Now, he has one last chance to get things right and stop a killer he’s been hunting across four timelines. Instead, he gets tangled in a petty crime that just might cost him his once chance at justice.

With two murders to stop, and thirty-eight lives still in the balance, Rembrandt must play his hand against time just right if he wants to win his future. Play it wrong and his life will stay shattered beyond repair.

What sacrifices will he have to make to come home to his wife and daughter?

The stakes have never been higher in the heart-wrenching, edge-of-your-seat fifth story of theTrue Lies of Rembrandt Stone.

My Thoughts:

Blood from a Stone by David James Warren for the fifth time allows readers to time travel with Rembrandt to the past as he tries to fix the future back to the way it was. Of course, more problems arise. After having failed four times, he hopes and prays that the fifth time is the charm. Again with the knowledge of past events, he tries to stop the crimes before they occur, but it does not end up correct and a domino effect of errors start occurring. After reading all five novels at this time, I really can’t wait to see how Warren ties up this series. Does everything go back to the way it was? Does Rembrandt learn to accept life the way it is? The plot continues to showcase danger and the hunt for the Jackson Five killer. I do enjoy the amount of action that is crafted in the novel. I do enjoy that Warren has Rembrandt try really hard to win his wife’s Eve affections. Overall, Blood from a Stone is another thrilling installment, and I can’t wait to get my hand on the final book and see how this series ends.

David James Warren: Set in Stone

 By Kelly Bridgewater

Trapped in time, he’ll have to use the past to fix the present.

Thirty-eight women. Dead. All the in the past. All because Detective Rembrandt Stone played with fate, and somewhere in time unleashed a serial killer. He can’t undo their deaths, not anymore, but the serial killer is still at large, twenty-four years later, and now it’s personal. Especially when the evidence points to the last person on anyone’s radar: Rembrandt himself.
Now he’ll have to use the clues from his pasts to track down the killer in the present.

But the killer is onto him and puts the one person Rembrandt loves in his cross hairs. Now, Rembrandt must outwit time to save the people he loves.

Because time is playing for keeps.

The fourth installment of the True Lies of Rembrandt Stone will have you holding your breath and leave you gasping for more.

My Thoughts:

This time, in Set in Stone, Rem Stone hits the mystery a little closer than ever to his home. Solving the mystery of the Jackson Killer takes over his thoughts and his actions as Stone tries to still work through understanding the difference between what his real present life is to what he has done to change things. I can't imagine trying to figure out what is the current reality and what has changed as he has moved through the time differences. Every time Stone does something that affects what his future would be, so he tries to change it. This time, the plot does move a little closer, but of course, something goes wrong, and Stone needs to fix it. I definitely enjoy the stories, and I really believe that you need to read these stories in their published order or readers will be confused. There are two novels left in this series, and I can't wait to see what Warren does to end the series. I wonder if Stone will actually arrive back in his normal life before the time traveling started.

David James Warren: No Stone Unturned

 By Kelly Bridgewater

“The One Rule Is, Don’t Mess With The Past”

But he did, and now ex-detective Rembrandt Stone is reaping the devastation of ignoring those words when he traveled back in time to solve the one case that had haunted his dreams.

Yes, he solved the crime. Yes, he saved lives. But Rembrandt returns to find the unthinkable has happened and his life has shattered.

There’s only one answer: break the rule again. Go back in time once more, fix what went wrong, save what went right, and yeah, in his spare time solve another brutal crime.

But it’s not so easy to change time, especially when time turns you into a target. And of course there’s the strong possibility if he goes again, he’ll never get back.

My Thoughts:

No Stone Unturned by David James Warren was better written and a little more normal if readers had read the first story, Cast the First Stone. In this addition, Stone goes back in time to try to stop a serial killer because in the "normal" world this dilemma, once again, affects his future. I enjoy stories with serial killers because for the most part, there is going to be tons of bodies and intrigue and clues that keeps the plotting moving and guessing. But in No Stone Unturned that is not the case. The story does show the first victim, and Stone does solve the mystery of what happened to this person, but is this person the serial killer later? I'm not sure. Warren left it up in the air. Warren does share what happens to the killer later in the story, but what happens later? That is the true question. I wanted more attention focused on the mystery instead it was Stone trying to woo his wife over and over again and stopping things that would hurt her in the future. Not that I don't like this book. Trust  me. Warren's writing always captures my attention, and I have hard time putting the novels down. Overall, No Stone Unturned by David James Warren is filled with intrigue and a hint of suspense. An interesting way to spend the day and forget about the lockdown.
